Still, Miley Cyrus's photo shoot with Vanity Fair magazine got many tongues wagging albeit a case of making a mountain out of a molehill. Shot by famous photographer Annie Liebovitz, the photos are artistic to many but inappropriate to the prude minority. Besides, her parents were at the photo shoot and if they did not stop the semi-nude pictures during the photo session nor stop the photos from being published, then both they and Miley Cyrus should not blame the photographer and shift responsibility. When she appeared on Good Morning America, the Hannah Montana star had this to say about her Vanity Fair semi-nude pictures controversy, "I think I was just in a stage where I was trying to get things done, maybe look for an older audience," she says,"I was working with a big magazine just trying to go with what they were saying… People need to remember that I am young and that I do have feelings, and I'll do the same thing for them. Anyone who was 15 years old can't say they haven't made a mistake. So I think it's just normal."
But I digress.
Back to Undiscovered Gyrl the movie, Miley Cyrus is reportedly going to have a nude scene. According to a MSNBC report, the movie will "definitely include nude scenes". The movie is about a suburban girl who is lovable but lost, and unknowingly loses control of herself by descending into a life of reckless partying and promiscuity. If Miley Cyrus decides to take on the role and does get the part, she would have go a lot more naked than she did in Vanity Fair. Still, it is something of a gamble for Miley Cyrus who has millions of fans who love her because she is Hannah Montana. Following the semi-nude photos controversy, ratings for the first fresh episode of Hannah Montana took a big nosedive. Nielson ratings reported a 14% drop in viewership for Sunday. Disney execs however, are still optimistic about their Hannah Montana star, saying, "Have no fear, the Hannah phenomenon is still alive and well." With a new season of shows, a new record and a theatrical film next year, the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus franchise looks to be going on strong.
On the subject of whether Miley Cyrus thinks that fellow Disney rivals Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato will be the next Hannah Montana, she says, "People are looking up to what I do. But, I don't think there could be a next Miley. I think they should be the next Selena, Demi. Make their own way." Of course, Miley Cyrus has more in common with Selena Gomez than just working with Disney. In her upcoming album, Selena Gomez has hinted that there will be a song about a boy, she's not saying who but gave some big clues. "My favorite song that I've written is called 'I'm Sorry,'" the Disney Channel star, who is reportedly dating Nick Jonas, tells TWIST magazine. "It's about a boy I kind of fell for, but he couldn't let his ex-girlfriend go, and it was really difficult."Nick Jonas of course, once dated Miley Cyrus who used their relationship as an inspiration for her song "7 Things".
Sounds like one big happy family at Disney, doesn't it.
One sure way to set herself apart from the rest of her Disney compatriots is if Miley Cyrus lands the movie role and does an outstanding job at it. But it could very well spell the end of Hannah Montana, not just the persona but the entire Hannah Montana franchise could be in danger of being a closed chapter. In its place would be the brand new, more matured Miley Cyrus the actress. Her interest in acting started young, with small guest spots in Doc and the Tim Burton movie Big Fish. After being turned down at many auditions, Miley Cyrus at the age of 13, landed the role of a lifetime in the new Disney series, Hannah Montana even though she was initially rejected for being "too young, too small". This life-changing role as a teenage who leads a double life of being a famous pop star is made even more special as her dad, Billy Ray is cast as her screen dad.
Hannah Montana quickly became Disney's most watched show for kids aged 6 to 14. The first original soundtrack debuted the Billboard 200 Chart at No. 1 and went triple platinum. This was quickly followed by a second album that sold like hot cakes with a 54-date concert that went a bit crazy with tickets selling out even before people had a chance to buy them. Some tickets were reportedly scalping for US$1,000. No doubt about it, Miley Cyrus is Disney's favorite cash cow at the moment, with projected Hannah Montana merchandise to reach 1 billion dollars in sales.
